The Scion FR-S's name is derived from three elements found within the car: Front Engine, Rear Wheel Drive, and Sport. The FR-S is unique due in large part to the fact that it has only one trim level: base. Scion does offer upgrades in the form of options that are available on both the BRZ and FT86, but they do not come in packages like the BRZ and 86 both offer, only individually. Scion has released a special edition FRS in honor of their 10th birthday, named the Sc10n Series FR-S. It includes unique HID headlights, push start ignition, illuminated badges and shifter knob, with a self adjusting automatic climate control.
The FR-S is known for it's great handling abilities, but it's Boxer FA20 engine is considered terribly underpowered in stock form. MAPerformance has been developing aftermarket performance parts for the FR-S to improve on not only the horsepower/torque rating, but the reputation of the car on the track. From our FR-S Turbo kit to FR-S Oil Cooler kit, we're aiming to pull the most out of the Toyota 86 platform!
The Scion FR-S was developed alongside the Toyota FT86 and Subaru BRZ thanks to the Subaru / Toyota joint venture. The FR-S features a Subaru developed boxer engine, rear-wheel-drive chassis, and long, sleek coupe styling. The 86 badge and nameplate was crafted in dedication to the late 80's "AE86 generation" RWD coupes and hatchbacks, such as the Corolla Levin and Sprinter Trueno.
