You can actually hear this thing sucking more air into the intake manifold! Had a leak in factory so needed a replacement. Looks a lot better also. Kind of a pain to get on. Just make sure Perrin logo is facing straight up.
I installed this on my 09 WRX with a OEM intercooler because I was having boost leak issues with the OEM coupler. Fitment is good. I boost leak tested it and it passed.
While doing an exploratory maintenance on my 2011 WRX, which was bought used a few years back, it became evident that the OEM coupler had sustained previous damage... =( ...specifically, upon dismounting the intercooler, the coupler came unfastened from the intake manifold due to never being properly reattached during a previous maintenance. After doing some research, I became aware of these aftermarket parts and picked this one up from MAPerformance.
The fitment and materials quality of this part are much better than the OEM coupler. Installing it in the correct orientation was a bit of a pain due to the fact that my existing OEM coupler, again, wasn't attached properly so I didn't have an example of the correct orientation upon removal. If at all possible, when installing, make sure you get a good look at how the OEM part is installed. Once it's the new coupler is installed it will actually hold the Intercooler by itself, so getting the bracket realigned is also a little tricky, but once everything is tightened down it's very sturdy, and ZERO boost leaks! Overall, 5 Stars on this part and MAPerformance had a decent price and a quick turnaround on the order.
The stock plastic coupler kept on popping off so this piece fixed the problem . Thank you
Bought this part to fix a boost leak. If you're running MAP Stage 1, the factory piece will not be able to handle the added pressure. The factory piece has been known to fail, so if you're getting a boost leak, I suggest this be the first piece you check. Install on the Perrin piece is straightforward; the fit is nice, but you will need to use a small dash of grease on the intercooler end to get it to slide in. Unboxing you can tell this Perrin silicone piece is way higher quality than the plastic garbage that came from Subaru; even the clamps provided by Perrin are nicer. If you monitor IAT's at the manifold, you will be able to tell this part will provide a little extra cooler air temps due to the better flow. Will it add power? No.
