Ecoboost Intercooler Billet Upgrade
All MAPerformance fabricated products are hand made in house by very skilled fabricators. We bend our own tubing, machine our own flanges, design jigs, weld, port, and R&D right here in the USA with locally sourced raw material. All fabricated products carry a lifetime guarantee against cracking/warping/failing. So buy with confidence, know that you are getting the best product on the market for your vehicle!
The MAP Ecoboost Mustang intercooler is a fabricated piece of art. We created this art by deciding to set ourselves apart from all the other intercoolers on the market and go with CNC billet machined end tanks. Not only does it allow us to achieve ultimate air flow by having smooth internal contouring, but we were also able to incorporate all the necessary sensor flanges, and mounting brackets into the one piece endtanks. No need to bend up a boxy end tank, and weld on cut to fit brackets and machined flanges. Our intercooler is designed to work with the factory charge piping, so installation is a breeze! No modification required. On top of it all, it just looks plain bad-ass! So, how does it perform? See for yourself!
MAP Billet Intercooler Charge Air Temps
Original charge air temps with the stock intercooler would run all the way up to 130-140 degrees on a 4th gear run. With our FMIC installed it never broke 100 degree's during testing, average was 95-96 degrees with back to back pulls. Below is a graph of a 4th gear run during a long day of testing on our dyno. As demonstrate below, our intercooler efficiently and effectively lowered air intake temperatures throughout the pull.

I only gave this review four stars because my MAP Street intercooler was missing the two M6 bolts that you need to do the install. Getting the missing bolts from MAP should have been a simple phone call with a were sorry the bolts were missing we will get them in the mail today and that would be the end of it. Whether shipping claims they packaged the bolts with the intercooler is immaterial as the customer would not be calling if the bolts were in the box with the intercooler. The quality of the intercooler is very good. The install is not hard and can be done from the bottom. The intercooler instructions could be better and are only available online so you have to download them, I say they could be better because they are not clear on how the fastener block is installed in the factory mounting point. You will figure it out but knowing the correct position from the start would make it much easier. Everything else about the install is straight forward and not hard to do. As for performance this intercooler far out preforms the stock intercooler. The intake air temperatures have dropped down to 9 to 11 degrees above ambient air temperature and when the weather conditions are right I have seen intake air temperatures as low as 3 to 4 degrees above ambient temperatures while cruising between 45 MPH and 70 MPH so this intercooler does work. The CNC machined side tanks are very well done and core is good heavy duty quality.
Back to the fastener block the curved side goes towards the rear as you install it, the thick end is the top and the curved thin end is the bottom, the notch at the thick end will be at the top facing forward and will seat against the plastic mount holding it in place when you tighten it. I would use a small amount of permeatex blue thread locker so it does not come loose from road vibrations. I attached a photo showing the fastener block and the intercooler so you can get a little bit of an idea of what the fastener block looks like.
If not for the missing M6 bolts I would have given this review five stars because the product is that good.
I live in the Phoenix, AZ Metro Area where the Summer temps can reach 100-118 degrees F and, from what I've read, cars w/Turbos don't typically react well to extreme heat situations! MAP's intermediate InterCooler should work much better than the EOM one Ford provided so...had a local Mustang Race Shop install (including the MAP CAI I purchased) for a little over $300 in Labor. Car already reacts well to new equipment!!
Great Product!!
Product was built great, welds look good. Took about 2 hours to install. Very good product
The car is a diferent car strong and powerful, and guess what better gas mileage,i ride my car more just for pleasure.
it's well-built and does a decent job but doesn't hold up in the summer. I like the intercooler but not at this price. I live in florida and my charge temps are 120-130 most of the time. 105 at night or early morning. Other big intercoolers that are same price keep my friends cars at 100. When I seen the MAPerformance video and discription I was thinking that charge temps would stay under 100
