Clutch Master Cylinder for 2002-2014 Subaru WRX by Clutch Masters
When upgrading your clutch, don't overlook upgrading your clutch master cylinder as well. Typically the OEM master cylinder will work just fine, but sometimes that master cylinder is getting old and tired and possibly might be leaking. Or maybe your want just a little bit more crisper pedal feel when operating your clutch.
Upgrading to the Clutch Masters Billet Aluminum Master Cylinder will make sure your clutch hydraulic system is up to snuff and able to handle more aggressive driving. The other notable upgrade this kit will do for you is eliminate the clutch delay valve that is built into the factory master cylinder.
The delay valve is a one way regulating valve that slows the fluid returning from the slave cylinder after you let off the clutch. This delay is especially noticeable in quick 1-2 gear shifts where you get back on the gas before the clutch is fully engaged. By getting rid of the delay valve you are able to shift quickly and the clutch is immediately engaging.

This was a night and day difference for my GG wagon. The factory master cylinder snubs performance by reducing clutch engagement pressure, meaning the hydraulic system does not react in the same time as your input to the clutch pedal. This solves that issue. Completely unrestricted, you can really feel the level of engagement with your clutch. No more boggy launches with this.
Now for the "but" part of the title. Installation was easy enough, the hardest part about it was just finding somewhere to mount the reservoir. This thing was a PITA to bleed. The instructions provided by CM, and subsequently everyone else, all tell you the same boilerplate procedure, but they gloss over one big thing. At its core, this product is a universal component. It is capable of a longer range of travel than your Subaru's clutch pedal will actuate, meaning the pedal doesn't really bleed it. After 2 days of scratching my head, I opted to simply unpin the clevis from the pedal and cycle the piston by hand. Even with the bleeder open it only took 2-3 pumps before it was completely bled. Reattach the clevis to the pedal and it's off to the races, literally.
This is in no way a criticism of MAP, whom I've only had good experiences with. My order was shipped the same day I ordered it and it was on my front door only 3 days later. I'm merely docking a star as CM's lack of instructional clarity made a blind install somewhat problematic.
Knowing what I know now, would buy again.
