MAPerformance Volkswagen MK7 GTI Catback Exhaust System
Modern Automotive Performance is no stranger to designing high-performance exhausts for modern turbocharged vehicles, but for the MK7 GTI, we decided to go straight to the owners to determine what they wanted most in an exhaust solution.
Performance
Owners demand performance and performance is enhanced by decreasing the energy and effort that is required for exhaust gasses to pass through a system. To reduce restrictions, we used 3” inch diameter stainless steel tubing and meticulously designed the system with smooth, mandrel-bent routing. We also designed the long legs of the mid-pipe on our CNC mandrel bender to minimize the number of sections that had to be welded together, further decreasing areas that might create flow-robbing turbulence.
Another unique feature of our system is the ability to eliminate the factory slip joint connections on the front of the catback and the rear of the front pipe. We offer the “For use with MAP Downpipe” option that connects to the front of the downpipe via V-Band, offering the least restrictive catback on the market for the MK7 GTI.
Quality
What you can control in house, ultimately dictates the quality of the final product. Few other companies use in-house mandrel-bent stainless steel tubing, but we do. Even though our state-of-the-art mandrel bender is CNC programmed, we even go a step further to measure the accuracy of each bend upon completion. From there, we carefully mock-up our exhausts on our custom-built in-house jigs to ensure the most accurate fitment possible. Next, our expert fabricators TIG weld each flange and joint with their superior back-purging techniques to ensure each weld lasts as long as the life of the car, while never leaking. Finally, each weld is inspected for imperfections before being sent off to our shipping department for shipment around the globe!
Made from high-quality 304 Stainless Steel our MK7 GTI Catback is a rare find. Most exhaust systems on the market are made from an inferior 409 Stainless and are prone to surface rust over time. Designed with performance and longevity in mind we're certain anyone in the market for an MK7 GTI Catback will be extremely pleased with the performance gains and exhaust sound of this system.
Sound
When it comes to the MK7 GTI Catback exhausts few things that matter as much as sound. Other companies design an exhaust for performance and fitment, but the resulting tone simply becomes the result. Here at Modern Automotive Performance, we take care to focus on the little details in order to bring out the best in each and every Catback we build.

PLEASE NOTE
- When cleaning exhaust tip, especially the blue tip variants which are made using a heat treatment process that can be removed with aggressive cleaning agents, make sure to use water and only if necessary, a very gentle soap. Never scrub, or use any rubbing or cleaning compound on these tips as the color will be damaged and will not be warrantied.

1.) All MAPerformance in-house fabricated parts include a Limited Lifetime Warranty for the Original Purchaser. This warranty only applies to the original purchaser and is non-transferrable. If the product fails it would need to be determined by MAPerformance that it is due to manufacturing defects in materials or workmanship. The purchaser will be responsible for sending the product back, after contacting MAPerformance and reporting the failure. Further instructions will be provided by MAPerformance.
2.) This does not cover normal wear and tear. Improper use, modification, or abuse voids this warranty. MAPerformance will not be held responsible for additional costs due to the failure of a product (cost of sale, towing, labor, etc.). Warranty claims must be submitted to MAPerformance for review. Products that are factory coated must adhere to the break in process. Only products coated by MAPerformance will be covered. Products will not be covered if wrapped.
3.) MAPerformance “Limited Lifetime” Warranty does not apply to all products. Kits, packages, bundles, or any non fabricated parts and products by MAPerformance are not warrantied. Engines and engine assemblies are not warrantied. Cast components are warrantied for 3 years from purchase date.
Really wakes up the car, gives it a nice rumble even at idle. Once it hits higher in RPMs, sounds so good. MAPerformance always makes great products! Easy to install, even without instructions.
The best way to describe the sound is a deep and resonated tone. This will sound louder than OEM but still gives no high pitched frequencies.
If you are looking at APR and borla this system is 70% the price and sounds better. I connected it to stock downpipe and it was great and the way to go.
The only things I would give you a heads up to buy is 1 rubber mount for the exhaust hanger for the side of the muffler and the downpipe to catback clamp. (It rusts easily) If they threw new ones and added $30 for the price it would have made it perfect.
2018 GTI 6MT
Thick piping, quality welds, nice v-band clamps, fast shipping and great fitment! I’ve been running a muffler delete for a year so it got quieter. The first day it was real quiet at higher rpm but by the next day it had a nice growl to it. Ma performance downpipe should make it louder how I’m wanting it. Doesn’t sound aggressive and loud for the sake of being aggressive and loud, it sounds aggressive in a very natural way. Sounds mean in the nicest way. If you’re on the fence, pull the trigger. You won’t be disappointed!
It was an easy install. i have a full MAP exhaust with dp. Very impressed with quality of the material and the sound. Not too loud but can be heard. Nice job MAP!!!
Had a small issue where a received the mk7 y-pipe instead of the mk7.5 that I needed. Customer service (Devin) got it sorted out and even hooked me up with 2 day shipping so that I would have the exhaust in time for a road trip!
Install was straight forward and I was able to get it done on stands in my garage in about 45 minutes.
The sound is subtle but definitely louder than stock. No drive while cruising, but can be heard under load. Can’t wait to grab the MAPerformance downpipe to pair up with the exhaust!
