The MK3 Ford Focus RS is a great platform for soaking up highway miles during the weekday and tearing it up at the track on the weekend! With some minor modifications, the 2.3L Turbo engine can produce some outstanding power. In stock form, the stock tube-and-fin intercooler is barely sufficient at cooling the incoming charged air. When you start adding power using a tune and/or bolt-on parts, you’ll soon find that you’re well beyond the limits of the stock charge air system which is notoriously prone to heat soak. Thankfully Injen Technology has developed a highly efficient bar-and-plate intercooler engineered specifically to fit the Ford Focus RS MK3 platform.
This FM9003i Front Mount Intercooler is one of the easiest ways to improve power by reducing air charge temperatures, improving flow characteristics, and ensuring minimal pressure drop. Factory calibrations begin to pull timing once charge air temps reach 100 degrees, and the ECM will continue to pull additional timing as temps continue to rise. By upgrading to this Injen Technology FM9003i intercooler, you prevent this heat soak and can keep charge air temps at or near ambient temperature. This ensures you’ll have consistent and reliable power output on the street, track, and circuit.
The FM9003i intercooler is a direct-fit unit and features over a 25% percent increase in core volume and an average of 35% reduction in charge air temps for your Focus RS. This intercooler is constructed with cast end tanks and precision CNC-machined aluminum flanges for use with the factory intercooler piping. The Injen Focus RS intercooler reduces charge air intake temperatures and provides an increase of up to 14 HP and 15 Ft. Lbs. of torque while retaining factory boost pressure across the core.
