Have owned my 2017 WRX Limited for a few months now. I have always driven manual shift (multiple cars and trucks to include old military trucks) and have found this car difficult to drive. It was a learning process. I usually kept my shifts around 3500-4500 RPM. There really wasn't any point to continue.
Installed the Cobb AP and it is a whole different car. All the reviews you are reading are no BS! I don't feel the 15hp or so that you may gain, but I did notice the elimination of rev-hang; which I found so flippin annoying and embarrassing really, and the smoothing of throttle response. This car now pulls all the way through. I'll take it to red-line.
Had a question when installing. There were to different '93 tunes to choose from for my application. Called MAPerformance and was on the phone with Ian within a few minutes. He answered my questions with no hesitation (dude knows his stuff and his vidz are cool) and my phone call was completed in no time.
I also chose their '93 OTS tune which I will be downloading here shortly (it was free). I just wanted to drive the care for a while with just the Cobb flash. I will get back to you guys on that.

I hesitated for a while to get this as it does seem very expensive initially. However, once I flashed to the MAPerformance Stage 1 tune, it was definitely worth the money. The car should have come from the factory like this. No more annoying rev hang and over sensitive throttle. It is much smoother to drive and my daily commute is much more enjoyable as a result. I also find myself using the gauges on the Access Port more than expected.
For fellow Canadians in BC: Note that our 0 ethanol 94 octane Chevron gas will not work with the 93 octane OTS tune. The 91 octane tune works okay with our gas. I have been experimenting with mixing some E85 with each tank of 94 (no more than E10 total) and it seems to be working. Will hold me over until further mods and pro tune.

Awesome tuner. Super easy to use and well designed. Aside from the actual COBB product, MAP's service is amazing. I had the map emailed to me first thing in the morning. The whole driving dynamics of the car were changed and is much smoother and pulls much harder. I will continue to buy from MAP.
Well built and designed, great software, easy to update firmware and install the tunes, both onto the device and onto the car, almost a no brainier. i got the stage one 91 octane tune with the purchase. it has changed the driving characteristics of my 2016 WRX base for the better. It is a pleasure to drive now, when before it was a pain to modulate the throttle. now, you get the response you would expect from the position of the gas peddle.
People have mentioned that the boost no longer feels "dramatic." this is true, but it doesn't fall on its face at 5500 now. it pulls consistently up to redline, peaking (for me) at 21.8psi. It doesn't "feel" as fast as it did before, but... it IS faster. it is that smoooth fast. that fast that you don't realize is happening until you are over the speed limit. The other nice thing is you can just drive around town with little to no boost if you want to. It is hard to explain. it won't "wow" you, but at the same time, it WILL "wow" you.
Now, i give it the title i did because i am not going to go above this to a stage two. want to keep it pretty much stock, but wanted to have a tune on it that it should have had from the factory. It was worth it, but it was also really expensive for my one time use situation.
all that being said, i HIGHLY RECOMMEND IT for anyone who wants consistent, smooth, predictable power delivery from their awesome WRX. MUST BUY!

Got an AP for my 16 WRX, tried the Cobb Stage 1 OTS and hated it. I hit up Ian and within 15 mins he sent me their Stage 1 tune. Stock tune got to me and I started to not like driving it anymore, with the MAP tune it changed my mind. This is the way the car should have come from factory! Keep up the good work guys.
I installed my AP in less than 5 minutes and flashed my ECU in another 5 minutes. The power differences were instantly noticeable and the tune from MAPerformance is amazing. Ian got it to me within a minute of asking for it. Would definitely purchase all of my parts from here.
Tune is really good. Makes the car drive smooth and predictable. Gas pedal is a little harder, but it makes everyday driving better. It adds a good punch at higher rpms. Customer service was great, got the tune super fast after request.
I've had several EJ wrx's prior to my FA... when I got the FA I hated every minute of the drivability querks and issues compared to the Stone Age EJ. As soon as I got the AP and the MAP tune, it became a completely different car and all those issues went out the door.
Night and day difference
After a few days with the WRX I started to research the dreaded rev hang. Quickly came up with the answer, but I'm glad I took the time to find MAPerformance. Not just a parts seller but "car guys" and why buy from someone that doesn't know first hand about what they are selling?
Night and day difference in the drivability of the car! Linear throttle and no more waiting forever for the revs to drop so I can let the clutch out in second gear. No more hunting and surging in the upper RPM range.
Very anxious to try the MAPerformance to, which was another deciding factor in purchasing from them.
I'm new to the Access Port idea but bought a used 2016 WRX STi with a Cobb intake and presumed it had a tune. When deciding if I should go ahead with AP, and after watching about a housand YouTube vids on all things WRX STi, including the WRX vid from Ian and MAPerformance, I reached out to Ian with questions and he was super helpful.
I'm not sure what tune my car had, but when pairing AP with car it indeed had a tune. I added the MAPerformance Stage 1 93 octane tune and love the results. Looking forward to learning more about the AP and what it can do.
At 9.5k miles I was still on the line about purchasing an AP. I had gotten used to the stock tune, the touchy throttle, and the rev hang. All the other reviews are correct. Getting an AP and using one of the free MAP tunes is essentially getting a new car. Of the three issues I mentioned, all have been corrected. Getting the car rolling in 1st is much easier, the 1-2 shift is faster, and power builds evenly throughout the rpm range, no more boost spikes at 3k rpm. It will take you a week to get used to the car again but its fantastic and I cannot recommend it enough.
So it no longer drives like I just learned to drive stick yesterday. Car is now predictable with ease of pulling out and smooth shifting. Not a huge power gain but that wasn't what I wanted/expected. Rev hang is much improved so I no longer need to look in my rearview to make sure the guy behind me doesn't rear end me as I wait for the R's to drop to shift smoothly from 1st to 2nd. Boost comes on smoothly and stays without dropping off earlier than expected. I didnt bother with Cobbs stage 1, went with MAP's right away so I cant comment on theirs. The car now drives like it should have to begin with!
I purchased the Accessport and I love it. Simple to use and the MAPerformance stage 1 tune is AWESOME. I have no mods done other than the stage 1 tune and I absolutely love it. More power, better drivability, no issues. That's how the car should have came from the factory.

Accessport was shipped out on the same day the order was received, and delivered on time.
I ran the cobb stage 1 map for a few days and it was a big difference for me, since I ran the stock tune for 11k miles. Right off the bat the rev hang is reduced, and throttle response is more linear. I almost stalled which is an indicator that I'm used to the sensitive throttle mapping. The car doesn't go into boost unless you actually put your foot down, which was annoying going uphill in lower gears on the stock map. On a hill it would always hit 5+psi of boost no matter what gear I was in, but now it stays out of boost and saves more gas. Gear changes are much smoother because of the linear throttle mapping.
Power delivery builds and keeps pulling till redline. The cobb stg 1 map really impressed me, and is money well spent. The exhaust gurgles and pops I used to hear while shifting gears are more distinct and aggressive. I patiently waited after the holidays for Ian to get back to me with their stage 1 map.
Well, I finally get it and flash the map, and normal driving is even better. Rev hang is even more reduced than the cobb stg 1 and I had to relearn my car a bit. The car doesn't buckle anymore in 1st and 2nd gear and it's smooth when engine braking. Downshifts are much more predictable and driving is so much easier now.
Power delivery on the MAP tune is ridiculous. I wasn't expecting that much more than the cobb tune, but I ran out of first and second gear real fast, and third was finished before I knew it. The exhaust pops are even more aggressive when changing gears, and I can shift faster without bogging the drive train because of reduced rev-hang.
Now I want more power, thank you Ian and MAP family for giving a taste of what this car can do and the great customer service.
It's terrible hurts v8's feelings. Tires take a beating. Stiff neck after launches. Fixes the wonderful factory tune. So when you place the pedal on the carpet it goes. Don't buy it because it's like an addiction you'll only want more power.
This accessport wakes up and makes the wrx sooo much nicer to drive, plus being able to monitor everything really makes me more confident in the car. Ian is a complete stud and gave me the best customer service I've had in a long time. If you're looking to buy an AP this is the place to buy it from. 100% recommend MAPerformance!

I've heard so much about it, but never thought it was complete different car! i love this tune runs smooth as it should, faster as well! i watched alot of videos and you guys caught my attention wasn't for Ian and the crew i would've have chosen a different company and i'm proud to be one of your costumers & glad i've chosen you guys! The addition of the Cobb AP should be at the top of every wrx drivers list of upgrades! Gets rid of the Rev hang and now shifts so much smoother. The power is spread out and noticed throughout the powerband. Gas mileage is improved, just so much good with this install. Extremely easy to install and very worth the price tag!
If you have a 15-16 WRX this is a must. Just running stage1 makes such a difference, the boost is solid (not all over the map like with stock map and no more over boosting to 22lbs). Shifting is much smother also, no more rev hang. This new version has so many features you can set up to 6 gauges that range from a/f per cylinder to wastegate duty. I can't wait to get my free map tune from Maperformance that is thrown in when you pick up a AP from them. It's gonna be a nice power gain at a $75 savings. Even If you were only going to do one mod I'd say let this be that one mod.
MAP's stage 1 tune is better than Cobb's.
I have heard that the AP changes the entire feel of the car, after actually installing it, I was extremely surprised. The car was great to drive to begin with, but after installing this it is so much nicer. Everything is so smooth and feels great. I would recommend this for every car!
Finally experienced what everyone is raving about. Amazing results. The MAPerformance 91 oct. stage 1 tune is like driving a stock STI. Power and torque delivery is all there. Yes, the instant boost at low rpm is gone but in return the power as you spin it makes it all up. I now have the confidence to race because I know my 2016 WRX 6spd won't fall on its face after 4k rpms. My FA20 loves to rev all the way to redline. Gobs of power. I uploaded the MAP tune today and I will never go back to the Cobb stage 1 tune. The support from Ian is hands down 5 star status. Thank you for the support and excellent product! I have put about 50mi so far on the tune and no knock or overboosting issues. Air and fuel ration is dead on. I live in the bay area CA on the ocean side where ambient temp averages 50-60deg all year. My car is lovin the cold air we have here. The tune is perfect! For all of you thinking about it, pull the trigger like I did and you will not be disappointed. Going to request a 93 tune soon and I know it only gets better. Stage 2 from MAP, here I come!

This is definitely the best mod you can make to your WRX. I purchased my AP from MAP and i had it deliver within a few days. Sent an email about the included custom tune at around 8 at night. and it was in my email inbox the next morning around 9:30. All the features of the AP are wonderful and easy to use. The COBB OTS stage 1 (i run 93 OCTANE) makes the car feel like it should have from the factory. Pulls till redline and drastically improves simple drivability in all aspects. After i switched to the MAP tune it was even better. All the good things that the COBB stage 1 offers but with a harder punch. It pulls harder and does feel a good amount faster. I absolutely rate my customer experience and the MAP stage 1 tune 5 stars. If you're concidering getting this mod... just do it right now. you wont regret it at all

Works perfectly. The 93 octane MAperformence tune is a beast.
It arrived in just two days. prior to ordering, the MAP team did a great job handling the questions I had regarding the product. Installation was a breeze.
I compared the COBB stage1 93octane tune with the MAP stage1 93octane tune. The COBB tune made improvements to stock, but the MAP tune felt much better. Even before installing the Accessport, I have kept a habit of letting my car warm up before driving so I haven't noticed any of the characteristics of driving on a cold engine. I love this tune. The throttle response is much better, I like that the power isn't flat in the high revs any more. Without any other mods it pulls much harder, so I'm excited for what gains come when tuning with intake/exhaust mods installed. On the side of drivability, I also like that if I'm in traffic and trying to drive softer, the car handles it better. I can maintain low RPMs without the boost pressure jumping around on me. I've noticed better gas savings as well.
Hands down, I recommend this product to anyone looking to start tuning their WRX, even if it's the only mod they choose.
The car absolutely needs this mod, Shifts so much better and pulls all the way to redline, I am running the MAPerformance stage 1 tune now, defintely feels like more torque and power than the cobb stage 1 and i'm getting better fuel mileage than stock. So the access port will pay for itself in fuel mileage. I can't wait for the j pipe and a dyno tune. running (Shell) 93 octane in Charlotte North Carolina. MAPerformance is also outstanding in customer service.

Cobb tune felt slightly stronger than stock and did well to smooth out throttle response and power delivery.
MAP tune was a little rougher at cold start/idle, but driveability and power are way ahead of the Cobb tune. First gear is now pretty much useless it comes so fast, and 2-4 pull like a freight train all the way to redline. I'm monitoring everything through the AP and the only DAM adjustment I've noticed is during ECU learning on a morning where we had a 30 degree drop in temperature. By the time I got back home that evening DAM was back to 1.0.
Best way I can describe it is that I feel like I have an extra gear in the car. 5th and 6th gear on the highway now pull hard instead of wheezing along. I seem to shift less now since the powerband feels so much broader across the entire range. Launch control and flat foot shifting work as advertised...might want to consider getting a pitch stop (https://www.maperformance.com/products/2015-subaru-wrx-sti-pitch-stop-mount-by-kartboy) since I seem to be banging the shit out of my gears now.
FWIW, I'm seeing about 24/25mpg on the MAP tune. Stop and go traffic and caning the crap out of the car otherwise. Almost no highway driving so far.
The access port is awesome. The MAPerfomance stage 1 91 tune is amazing! This is how the car should have come from the factory! Night and day difference. No more rev hang, no more dead slot at 4,500 RPM and the throttle feel is perfect. I'm in CA so only option is 91. This tune will not disappoint. Thank you MAPerfomance for all the work you have put into this tune for us to enjoy. I was really getting sick of the stock tune, your map is exactly what the car needed. Runs much smoother and faster than the Cobb stage 1 map. I highly recommend buying the Access Port from MAPerfomance!
This little box is amazing. It made my 2017 WRX more driveable around town and removed the disappointment that the OEM tune gave me at higher RPM.
The Cobb AP is easily one of best the starter mods to do to your car. MAP's custom stage 1 tune that's included when you buy an AP from them is absolutely amazing. It makes my 16' WRX so much smoother on the throttle/power delivery and increasing power by a substantial amount at the same time. Even if you plan on keeping your car 100% stock, this AP is still highly recommended because it makes the car so much better to drive.
My car is a 2017 wrx and like all the reviews say the OEM tune is horrible. It made my car frustrating the drive at times. Now with this my car has more power and is easier to drive. Drivability is greatly improved. They're absolutely no negatives from installing this product. Also the free map stage 1 tune is smoother and has more top-end than the cobb tune. It's win win!!!

Yes if you've decided that you want to get the accessport already, you probably know what it is and all about it. My issue was deciding who to buy from..and with the reviews for MAP being what they were as well as a free tune...I had to get it here. Ian was quick with e-mail traffic and the cobb accessport got here within a couple days. I ran the OTS Stage 1 map from cobb for a day before trying the MAP stage 1 pro tune, man what a difference. The OTS cobb does make the car easier to drive, but so does MAP's...except with more power. It's hard to put in words but you feel the difference right away. I'm already looking at the MAP stage 2 kit...I wouldn't buy from anyone else, especially with their stage 2 tune that comes with it.
Accessport description states that "When you purchase a COBB Accessport for your 2015 Subaru WRX/STi from MAP optimized shelf tune! " but it doesn't say if it's for MT or CVT. Since it's not specified, then it should be available for both, but it turns out that it's not available for CVT. Even a mildly optimized (over cobb OTS map) would still be welcome.
Extremely Happy with my purchase of the accessport from MAPerformance. I have been using the stage 1 93 octance tune for 3 months now and it has been flawless. Have never seen any knock and all the air fuel learning and correction has been perfect. Definitely feels much stronger than the Cobb stage 1 map. If you are going to buy an accessport for your WRX do it here! Will be looking in to the stage 2 soon.

I'm currently running on OTS Stage 1 map from Cobb (AP, ETS CAI, and Axleback exhaust) but whenever Ian releases his map for the 17, I'm gonna switch it over. I've heard so many good things about Ian's map. Can't wait!!!!
I'm really happy with my accessport v3 purchased from MAperformance. The first 2 days I used the cobb Stage 1 map and I was not really impressed. But then Ian sent me the Maperformance stage 1 map and Wow!! My car is a whole different beast. It's a night and day difference. The car is easier to drive and pulls soo much harder. I have never driven an AWD car at the 1/4mile track. (I come from the honda world)...My first time out ran a 13.7..just the accessport and muffler deletes. Besides that the car is stock. Thanks Maperformance. I'm looking into my next modification to purchase from you guys.

After a lot of research and talking to others, I made the right decision to buy the Access port with the MAP tune. Sooooo glad I did....this thing is AWESOME! great job by Maperformance too, the tune is strong and makes my car a blast to drive. I have actually gotten better mpg when cautiously driving to work...lol. (28.1 mpg average on my second tank of fuel)
As mentions above, this states the there is a tune available for the 2017 WRX, and thats not true. COBB just released a 17 WRX STI 6MT tune, but for CVT 2017 you are stuck with a PAPERWEIGHT.
What can i say that hasn't been said already by so many? The Cobb AP, coupled with the excellent tune from MAP, is a must have. Once flashed, it's like driving a completely different vehicle. Power comes on smoothly and consistently. The driving experience is so much more enjoyable now. Having all the data logging capabilities and everything with the AP is a plus as well. I regret nothing. Also, i cannot say enough about how wonderful the customer service was. Generally speaking, online purchases are sterile and lacking any sort of human touch. Not so in this case. From the ridiculous purchase verification email to my email conversations with Ian, everything was awesome. I will purchase from these guys again in the future for sure.
I purchased the accessport from MA Performance for my 2015 WRX. The accessport came with MAP's awesome stage 1 tune and it is freaking amazing. The tune comes free if you buy the accessport and MAP's tune is top notch. I told myself I was just going to buy the accessport but no way I can resist going stage 2 now. Thanks MAP!
I was very disappointed to discover that the AP does NOT support the 2017 WRX as the headline suggests. I even confirmed via maperformance online chat that the unit would definitely support my 2017 WRX. Upon installation, the unit displayed that my car could not be detected and directed me to contact Cobb technical support. Cobb support informed me that only the 2017 STI had support from the AP and that the regular WRX was yet to be released. The language on this product needs to be updated to reflect the reality of what's supported here. Luckily, I'll be able to flash the unit with the new firmware once it's available but customers shouldn't have to discover this kind of thing from Cobb support.
Well I haven't been able to use it yet since it doesn't work for a 2017. Sure is advertised for the 2017 though. I'm sure once Cobb gets the firmware for it, it will work awesome. Just makes me a little angry I wasted hours trying to make it work. Never saw anything on the website about them not having firmware for it yet.
This tune is definitely way better than what cobb provides for you, it's even better than the tune cobb made for the ETS air intake and that's what I have on my car. I've been able to reach 22psi and I live in Colorado so that's pretty impressive at this altitude. Also Ian was great at answering all my questions and helping through the process. Thank you so much Modern Automotive Performance for the great product and the great customer service I will definitely be recommending you guys and will also be buying more products from you. Best first mod for. My car is daily driven and with the cobb AP from MAPERFORMANCE, it takes you to a whole another level of driving experience. You'll be likely to drive your car more often.

Love my AP with the MAPerformance Stage 1 OTS tune. This is seriously how the car should have come from Subaru. The only reason I didn't give 5 stars is because I purchased the MAPerformance air intake at the same time, and they do not have an OTS tune available for their intake at this time. Ian was great about answering my questions, and stated that they would work to develop an OTS tune for their intake, but needed someone local to test on. I had thought about returning the intake, but now will likely have to pay for an etune to utilize it. I know the intake doesn't add much power, but I love the sound.
If you want great products and great customer service, MAPerformance is the way to go. These guys know what they are doing and are so helpful every step of the way. The Cobb Accessport along with the MAP OTS tune takes the WRX and makes it a brand new car. So much more noticeable power and the car no longer drops off after 5500, it pulls all the way through.
