There are events, and then there are experiences. HyperFest at Virginia International Raceway falls firmly into the second category, and we are glad we made the trip.
Before we even got to the track, the adventure had already started. Rather than loading everything onto a trailer and calling it a day, we decided to drive two of our in-house builds down from Wisconsin. The FL5 Civic Type R and our Evo 10 MAP builds made the trip south, and everywhere we stopped along the way people absolutely loved it. Pulling up next to groups of people at gas stations and rest stops and watching their faces light up was one of those reminders of why we do what we do.
Thursday Setup at VIR
We pulled into Virginia International Raceway on Thursday to get the booth dialed in and right away we knew this weekend was going to be something special. HyperFest is billed as the automotive amusement park and that description is not an exaggeration. Drifting, time attack, off-road, rally, music, and camping all packed into one weekend at one of the most respected road courses in the country.
Our setup put us right in the middle of all of it. We trailered down our full booth and landed in a spot that gave us a VIP vantage point over the entire Skid Pad, which MAP sponsored for the event. To our left and right sat the event title sponsor Haltech and Nappyboy Automotive, better known as the operation running T-Pain and Hert. If you know those names, you understand why that was a fun neighborhood to be in.
Before the weekend even kicked off we were watching motocross riders launching three deep over drift cars, while Blake W. sent his XComp machine underneath them going the other direction. If that sentence does not make complete sense in text form, just know that it made complete sense in person and it was one of the wildest things we have seen at an event.
Friday Through the Weekend
Friday is when the real energy hit. Our custom event merch, a shirt and koozie design we had built specifically for HyperFest, moved so fast that by Friday night we were already down to less than a quarter of our inventory. That kind of response from the community means everything to us and we appreciate every single person who came by the booth.
Beyond the booth though, we were out experiencing everything the event had to offer. Hot laps around historic VIR at over 110 miles per hour through those long sweeping corners is something that reminds you real quick how talented professional drivers are. Then you head over to the drift program and you are sliding into corners at 40 miles per hour in a mix of pro and beginner cars, each one telling its own story about where the driver is in their journey with the sport.
The variety of builds that showed up was genuinely impressive. Hand-built garage drift cars running right alongside professional setups pushing 2000 horsepower. Spec E30 races packed with drivers fighting for every tenth of a second. And then there was Allen Patten, who went out and set the new overall lap record at VIR with a 1:42.9 in a C7 Corvette running full track aero. People were joking that the downforce had a car attached to it. When a Time Attack result makes the crowd go quiet for a second before they realize what just happened, you know it was something worth watching.
One Small Setback
We have to be honest, the weekend was not without a hiccup. While we were over at the VIP tent on Saturday, someone made off with our custom beverage toolbox that had been gifted to us. It stung a little. But when you spend a weekend talking to hundreds of people who genuinely love cars and love what MAP is building, it is hard to leave anything but grateful. We know how to share, and apparently so did whoever grabbed it.
Final Thoughts
HyperFest 2026 was MAP's first event of the year and it set a bar that the rest of the season is going to have to work to clear. We left with more friends than we showed up with, a whole lot of great content, and a renewed appreciation for what this community is capable of when everyone shows up in the same place at the same time.
