I originally bought the gates replacement water pump for my evo x and tried to install it , but the studs that go to the water pipe had threads that don’t go down as far as the oem and i tried to tighten down and it stripped the threads out of housing so i took it apart and used the housing off the origanal pump, thats when i saw the difference between oem and gates. The impellers are totally different, the gates is a large paddle wheel style and the oem is more streamlined. That means the gates will drag more costing you spool up time and horsepower loss! So I recommend the oem over gates as a replacement! No one wants less spool or loss of horsepower from a water pump that puts more drag on engine. But if you still want the gates waterpump make sure you get some thick lock washers for the studs for water pipe so you don’t tighten the bolts down on the smooth part of studs!
