The stock downpipe on the Evolution X is a somewhat restrictive 2.5" from the Mitsubishi factory. While this may work well from an emissions-compliance perspective, you can squeeze plenty more performance out of your turbo with a larger diameter 3" downpipe. If you allow those exhaust gasses to escape more quickly, your turbo will spool up quicker leading to better performance and fuel economy.
