It's Official - an AWD Ford Focus RS is happening!

Posted on 03 February 2015

An AWD Ford Focus RS Dream will become a reality in 2015, thanks to Ford Performance!

We've all been foaming at the mouth waiting for the 2016 Ford Focus RS. Rumors have been spreading since the end of the summer about the details of the new Ford Focus RS, and now those tasty rumors have been confirmed by Ford Performance at a special press conference reveal in Germany! Well, for starters it's confirmed to be an All-Wheel-Drive hatchback. AWD Ford Focus RS. That has a nice ring to it. Secondly, it'll be turbocharged thanks to the 2.3L Ecoboost Motor also seen in the Ecoboost Mustang. Not only will it have the same engine as it's Ford Performance cousin, it'll pack a bit more power thanks to a larger intercooler and turbocharger. The Focus RS's all-wheel drive system will use a pair of electronically controlled clutch packs. These clutch packs will allow up to 70 percent of the engines torque to be sent to the rear wheels at any time. Ford's Dynamic Torque Vectoring system will allow 100 percent of that torque to be sent to each rear wheel. Paired with some new tread courtesy of Michelin in the form of Pilot Super Sport tires, the 2016 Ford Focus RS will be capable of pushing one g of lateral acceleration. As mentioned in our last blog post about the Ford Focus RS, we expect the latest offering from Ford Performance to be a major contender in the United States performance market. Mitsubishi left a huge hole, and Ford looks to capitalize on this opening. Will it be able to do so? Only time will tell. Be sure to keep an eye on the MAP blog for future posts about the 2016 Ford Focus RS AWD including performance parts, performance specs, and other information you're (and we're) excited for!
