GM Solstice, Sky, Cobalt, HHR Factory Turbocharger Upgrade
PRECISION TURBO AND ENGINE has the perfect solution for those looking to upgrade their GM LNF-equipped vehicle's factory turbocharger rather than purchase a complete aftermarket replacement unit.
The factory turbo upgrade consists of replacing the stock compressor wheel with a PTE 2618 forged aluminum Competition Engineered Aerodynamics (CEA) compressor wheel, installing new bearings and seals (if necessary) and cleaning up the overall unit. This service, which was originally initiated at the request of the GM Racing team, has been available since 2008.
An affordable and effective upgrade for tuners looking to get the best bang for their buck without significantly changing their car's turbo system, Precision's upgrade is available for the '07-'09 Pontiac Solstice GXP, '07-'09 Saturn Sky Red Line, '08-'10 Chevrolet HHR SS and '08-'10 Chevrolet Cobalt SS .
Often, upgrading the turbo alone will not result in maximum power gains as the factory ECM will typically turn down the boost to compensate for the increased torque and airflow. A simple fix of retuning the ECM to pull out the factory torque management feature can result in approximately a 15% gain in overall power. Some tuners, however, have reported substantial power gains without modification to fueling or the stock tune.
Working in conjunction with the recalibrated ECM, the addition of 3" high flow catalytic converter, downpipe and exhaust system, front mount intercooler, new intercooler pipes and intake, PTE's factory turbo upgrade has been known to produce as much as 100 horsepower over stock on 2.0L LNF engines! One of PTE's WD's project Solstice GXP Coupe, equipped with the Precision factory turbo upgrade, made 332whp and 372ft-lbs of torque on a Mustang dynamometer.
